Why is variety resistance breaking down?

THE LEVEL of disease inoculum present in crops and stubbles has a direct impact on the rate of disease resistance breakdown. When susceptible varieties are grown in an area with wet conditions favourable for the disease, high levels of the fungal population can result, providing more opportunities for mutations to occur.

When fungicides are applied poorly, at low rates or at late stages of infection, high levels of inoculum will result.
