MALTING BOOST

A WEALTH of information to help growers achieve malting grade barley has been produced on CD-ROM following GRDC-supported research in SA. The CD, Malting Barley — Improving the Odds, contains detailed information on time of sowing, sowing density, nutrition management, rotations, and weed and disease management, along with breeding priorities of research, according to the Leader of the SA Barley Improvement Program, Andrew Barr. Professor Barr said the resource, developed by Nigel Long of the University of Adelaide, also included data on the effect of environment on malting quality and an agronomic model.
