CUR00024 - Genetics of wild germplasm, gene-pool expansion and integrated ASSD approach to enhance adaptive potential in chickpea
Cultivated chickpea (Cicer arietinum) has a narrow genetic base which constrains the ability to find valuable genetic diversity that could be used in developing improved varieties for Australian growers. This project aimed to broaden genetic diversity in cultivated chickpea germplasm through the introgression of wild (C. reticulatum and C. echinospermum) material into current chickpea varieties, with the aim to introduce traits adaptive to Australian growing seasons and regions.
