RD&E investment strategy

We invest in research, development and extension (RD&E) to create enduring profitability for Australian grain growers.

The RD&E plan 2018-2023 is the key planning document that guides our investment in grains RD&E. This is part of the larger, Grains Industry National RD&E strategy.

The investment portfolio is structured around the key drivers of profitability, which have been defined as:

key drivers

Profit = (yield x price - costs) x risk.

Following extensive industry consultation, 29 Key Investment Targets (KITs) were developed under the five key drivers (objectives).

There are also four core frameworks that underpin RD&E investment:

  • data management and analytics
  • biosecurity
  • grower communication and extension
  • capacity and ability.
