Implementation of Grains Industry Biosecurity Plan 2025 to 2029
To ensure its future viability and sustainability, it is important that the Australian grains industry minimises the risks posed by exotic pests and responds effectively to plant pest threats. Implementing a biosecurity plan for the grains industry forms a framework for the coordination of biosecurity activities and investment for Australia's grains industry. It provides a mechanism for industry, governments, and stakeholders to better prepare for and respond to incursions of exotic pests that could have significant impacts on the grains industry. It identifies and prioritises exotic plant pests (not currently present in Australia) and important established pests and focuses on future biosecurity challenges.
The Grains Biosecurity Plan v4 was endorsed by Plant Health Committee in June 2024. Within the plan is an implementation action table. This investment is to implement some of these activities including facilitating regular Grains Biosecurity Advisory Committee meetings, supporting a Grains Biosecurity Coordinator role, facilitating incursion simulation exercises, regular updating of the Grains Industry Biosecurity Plan, and development of an Australian Grains Biosecurity Guide.
