Proof-of-concept validation of chickpea heat tolerance within ARC LSA Hub germplasm
GRDC's investments in ARC Research Hub Legumes for Sustainable Agriculture (LSA) has identified several heat tolerant chickpea pre-breeding material and genetic effects linked to the trait. This investment will validate a genetic population developed and partially phenotyped in the LSA to confirm and validate gene effects linked to adaptation to autumn sowing. Furthermore, sufficient chickpea seed quantities of the pre-breeding pipeline will be produced for distribution to multiple stakeholders upon request.
This project will therefore identify heat tolerant chickpea lines suitable for autumn sowing, develop markers linked to adaptation to autumn sowing and provide enough seed of lines at various stages of development for distribution to plant breeders for further crossing, testing and selection.
