Nozzles have a significant impact on spray quality and therefore the effectiveness and efficiency of spraying operations. An effective way to manipulate spray quality is to choose suitable nozzles for the specific task, while at the same time ensuring compliance with the label requirements in terms of a minimum spray quality to mitigate against the risk of spray drift.

GRDC's Standard Nozzle Selection Guides for standard boom sprays details the most common or widely-used nozzle types in spraying systems to help spray operators select the best nozzle for their task.

These guides have been compiled using the latest spray quality classifications from nozzle manufacturers which has been updated to the most current ISO 25358 / ASABE S-572.3 standard. For some nozzles, this latest revision has resulted in some adjustments of rated spray quality at different operating pressures.

Two versions of the guide have been produced. One version includes spray volume outputs at different operating pressures and travel speeds for 50cm nozzle spacing (which can also be used for 25cm nozzle spacing if output rates are doubled), and a second version for sprayers operating with 38.1cm (15 inch) nozzle spacing.

Please refer to the Pulse width modulation sprayers factsheet, which includes the nozzle selection guide for pulse width modulation sprayers.
