Global Conference on Sandy Soils

Event Name
Global Conference on Sandy Soils
Start Date
End Date
Duration
3 days and 5 hours
Description

There are approximately 900 million hectares of sandy soils worldwide, particularly in arid or semi-arid regions.

Southern and Western Australia alone have more than 22 million hectares of arable sands. These soils are often impacted by multiple constraints, such as soil acidity, soil water repellence, and high soil strength, while also having inherently poor fertility and a limited capacity to store water and nutrients. Challenges associated with sands require multi-faceted research skills and strategies, diagnostic methods and management approaches to overcome.

This conference will build and strengthen the international network of researchers with expertise on sandy soils. The conference theme, “Shifting Sands to Sustainable Solutions”, will focus on the pressing challenges of managing and protecting the natural capital of sandy soils in the context of a changing climate. The program offers a platform to present and discuss sandy soil research through a diverse agenda, including varied plenary presentation formats, workshop sessions, and mid-conference field trip.

The conference will showcase the challenges and opportunities from a diverse range of sandy soils and land-uses. Social events will provide plenty of networking opportunities for delegates to build future collaborations.

The event is a fantastic opportunity for delegates to gain an understanding on sandy soil management and conservation across WA and Australian systems and share their experiences from across the globe.
