Assessing the ecological and economic benefits of controlling aphid pests of canola with parasitoid wasps
Assessing the ecological and economic benefits of controlling aphid pests of canola with parasitoid wasps
This investment aims to provide canola growers and advisers with evidence-based guidelines for integrating beneficial insects into pest management programs, specifically focusing on the efficiency of aphid parasitoid wasps in controlling aphid pests without the use of chemical treatments.
Outcomes:
1. Development of highly valuable integrated pest management (IPM) management guidelines for canola growers and advisers.
2. Empowerment of growers and advisers to utilise beneficial insects for canola pest management.
3. Translation of research findings into practical, achievable, and profitable management recommendations and resources for the industry.
4. Assessment of the efficiency of resident and inoculated aphid parasitoid wasps in controlling aphid pests without the use of foliar chemical treatments.
5. Comparison of the effectiveness of IPM strategies with conventional approaches based on broad-spectrum pesticides.
6. Evaluation of the biological, ecological, and economic benefits provided by natural enemies in canola pest management.
