This investment will test for resistance mutations to Group 3 (DMI) and Group 11 (QoI) fungicides in wheat powdery mildew in the Northern region, which has seen resistance shifts in recent years. In partnership with separate procurements, mutations will be profiled over two years in NSW to understand variety by fungicide application and develop fungicide resistance mitigation strategies. Mutations will also be surveyed in paddock samples from SE, SW, NE and NW NSW to monitor resistance development in those areas. Management strategies and monitoring efforts resulting from this investment will aid in preventing reduced efficacy or loss of fungicide options for the management of wheat powdery mildew in the Northern region.
