Regulation Framework for site-specific chemical application
Herbicide registration is lagging the development of site-specific-chemical application technologies.
In this investment, Nufarm will collaborate with GRDC and the APVMA to develop new protocols for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) that are recognised by the Australian Regulatory system. These protocols will enable the registration of new herbicide uses which are not suitable for traditional broadcast application due to either;
In this investment, Nufarm will collaborate with GRDC and the APVMA to develop new protocols for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) that are recognised by the Australian Regulatory system. These protocols will enable the registration of new herbicide uses which are not suitable for traditional broadcast application due to either;
A) increased application rates leading to the presence of residues that may become barriers to trade or
B) unacceptable crop damage (on a broad scale).
Nufarm will apply to the APVMA for registration of up to 3 novel herbicide use patterns resulting from the development of the new protocols, utilising strategies A and B. These use patterns will relate to usage of the technology in one or more of the three main crop groups, cereals, oilseeds, and pulses.
The newly developed protocols will become part of the APVMA regulatory framework and as such be freely available to all Australian registrants for the registration of the identified use patterns relating to site-specific-chemical application.
The investment is anticipated to start in 2023, with candidate herbicides to be determined following a literature review and be completed, including all relevant field studies, by 2027 at the latest. Herbicide registration will take an additional year (depending on the candidates chosen).
