UA00168 - The 10 Genome Wheat Sequencing Consortium
Modern wheat cultivars carry a wide range of different genes associated with important traits, such as increased yield and disease resistance. This project will develop deep sequence profiles and assemblies for ten diverse wheat genotypes that can be used as a base of subsequent genome assembles. Through the 'Ten Wheat Genome Project' a framework will be produced that can be used to map new genome sequences rapidly and cheaply. Gene discovery, genome analysis and the development and application of genomics-based tools to support wheat breeding will be dramatically enhanced through this resource, meaning wheat researchers and breeders will be better equipped to identify genes that can be used for improving wheat production and quality. A consortium has been brought together to achieve the objectives of the 'Wheat Ten Genome Project'.
