Next generation plant breeding: integrating genomic selection and high throughput phenotyping to enhance genetic gain in sorghum and mungbeans
A range of new technologies including genomic selection and high throughput (HTP) phenotyping systems have the potential to dramatically improve the rates of genetic gain in crop breeding programs. This requires the development of integrated data management and analysis pipelines using high performance computing systems to generate genomic breeding values in a timely fashion to allow for their effective use in crop improvement programs. This investment aims to develop approaches to integrate genomic selection and high throughput phenotyping to bring about improvements in the rate of genetic gain in sorghum and mung bean breeding programs.
