Boyd Carter: risk and reward early sown canola

Boyd Carter: risk and reward early sown canola

Published: 16 Jan 2024

WA grain grower Boyd Carter from Wubin  and his family have been growing canola since 1996. Between 2020 and 2022, Boyd seeded canola in March, noting the advantages of warmer days on establishment when moisture  was available.

Seeding decisions are typically made based on the forecast of rainfall and subsoil moisture. This grower case study is one of three grower case studies on the risk and reward of early sown canola.
