Mike Dodd: risk and reward early sown canola

Published: 16 Jan 2024

Mike Dodd, a grain grower from Buntine, WA, has been planting canola since 2007.

Typically, canola comprises 20 to 30 per cent of their program and has almost always been their best-returning crop. Mike bases his sowing decision on stored soil moisture and tracks year-round rainfall across all blocks to inform them.

This grower case study is one of three grower case studies on the risk and reward of early sown canola.
