Module 16: Overview of the spraying systems available

Module 16 provides an overview of the spraying systems available, covering strengths and limitations.

Key points

Before purchase, a number of factors should be taken into account when selecting a spraying system:

  • the range of application volumes and the range of spraying speeds required;

  • the crop types and fallow to be sprayed, including canopy size and stubble conditions;

  • the products to be applied and the label requirements, including spray quality and downwind buffers of the products likely to be used;

  • limitations of the current spraying system, as a guide to what may be useful when upgrading or replacing the sprayer; and

  • the opportunity to access reliable service for the system when required.

    This module does not discuss optical spot sprayers (which are covered in Module 20). A summary table at the end of this module indicates which systems are better suited to support optical spot spray systems
